Wrinkle Relaxers: Botox, Dysport, & Daxxify

These FDA-approved neuromodulators temporarily relax the facial muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions like smiling, frowning, and squinting.

Wrinkle relaxers work by blocking the nerve signals that trigger targeted muscle contractions. As the muscles relax, the overlying skin becomes smoother, reducing the appearance of forehead lines, frown lines (11s), crow's feet, bunny lines, lip lines, chin dimpling, neck bands, and other signs of facial aging. With consistent treatments, neuromodulators can also help slow the development of deeper expression lines over time.

While all three products work similarly, each has unique characteristics. Botox is the most recognized neuromodulator, Dysport tends to diffuse more broadly and may have a quicker onset in some patients, and Daxxify is known for its peptide-powered formulation and may provide longer-lasting results for eligible candidates. During your consultation, your provider will recommend the best option based on your anatomy, treatment goals, and lifestyle.

The treatment with neuromodulators is safe and effective with no downtime is associated with the procedure. The treatment procedure doesn't involve any incisions or local/general anesthesia. If you are concerned about any pain or discomfort, then a local numbing gel or ice pack can serve the purpose.

No major side effects or complications are associated with the procedure, but minor bruising, swelling, or redness may occur. Swelling usually subsides within twenty minutes of the procedure, whereas bruising can last a week after the procedure. You may also suffer headaches on the day of treatment. Other major side effects are rare and can be discussed with your provider.

Most healthy adults who want to reduce facial wrinkles or prevent signs of aging are good candidates for neuromodulator treatments. However, these treatments are not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neuromuscular disorders. Wrinkle relaxer treatments are quick, minimally invasive, and require little to no downtime. Appointments typically take 10–20 minutes, and most patients return to their normal activities immediately afterward. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites may occur but usually resolves within a few days. Serious side effects are rare when treatment is performed by an experienced medical provider.
